I’m reading these out of order and it’s been decades since I read The Blue Sword. So any of the references in here went right over my head. But it’s a good story, if fairly straight forward. Not everything needs to be an inversion of expectations or a reinvention of the form. Girl craves adventure, trains, goes out seeking adventure and has some. The love triangle resolution and time spent on recovering from wounds were both well done (a common trope is being stabbed through the shoulder and then feeling better the next day. Nothing like that here).
All in all, it held up and I know why my younger self enjoyed it.
